Ave Mazaryk 407, Col Polanco CP 11550, Mexico City, Mexico
Last years position: 31 / Years on list:3
This Basque-Mexican hybrid is the place where hip Mexico City high-rollers go to eat the creations of joint chef owners Bruno Oteiza and Mikel Alonso. Two menus are offered: creative and traditional. Foie 100% cotton candy is imaginative with a Spanish feel, while a rib-eye steak served with baby corn and pigs’ ears is unmistakably Mexican. All dishes apply forward-thinking techniques to get the most out of local produce, combined with deft use of flavour.
Techno – emotional + local ingredients = Mexican new wave
The World’s 50 Best Restaurants
Organised by Restaurant magazine, The World’s 50 Best Restaurants list is an annual snapshot of the opinions and experiences of over 800 international restaurant industry experts. What constitutes “best” is left to the judgment of these trusted and well-travelled gourmets.
The results are a simple computation of votes. Given that this well-constructed list is based on personal experiences it can never be definitive, but we believe it is a honourable survey of current tastes and a credible indicator of the best places to eat around the globe.
